Guinea Pig or hamster?
October 11th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I posted another question about guinea pigs yesterday getting some info on them. Now that im doing a bit of research on the little critters I wonder if a hamster wouldn’t be better? I had hamsters when I was a kid and never got bitten but the web says they are nippy and not as social as guinea pigs - is that true? If we got a young hamster, handled and played with it a lot would it be fine with the kids (11 and 9, very careful, calm kids).
Guinea pigs just seem more “sturdy†I suppose but I enjoyed my hamsters while I was a kid. I am also concerned that hamsters only live up to 24 months (the internet says). Seems like the kids would be so sad if the pet only lived that long.
Any opinions on Guinea Pigs vs. Hamsters?

Can I give Hamsters small amounts of rabbit pellets?
October 7th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I may be getting a pair of Campbell’s Russian Dwarf Hamsters, (see my other question about CRD’s in a Crittertrail 2) Anyway, I am going to feed them lab blocks with TONS of fresh food for balance and variety, I was wondering if I could feed them rabbit or guinea pig alfalfa pellets for like roughage instead of hay because in the past I’ve always had hamsters sleep in the hay rather than use it for roughage. I’m just wondering if it would be okay, If it isn’t don’t be mean to me, I won’t do it if it isn’t.
Oh, no, lol, I don’t mean I will feed the hamster ONLY rabbit food, I just meant to use it like a suppliment, like how rabbit’s need timothy hay in addition to their regular food. I know there is a huge difference between rabbits and hamsters, lol, sorry about the question misunderstanding. I was going to give it as a suppliiment 2x a week.

Can you litter box train a guinea pig?
July 13th, 2009 Posted by: admin
If so how? I bought a little tray thing for his hutch for him to go in but he just goes where ever he feels he needs to. Is it a lost cause. I also thought about buying some of that hamster litter, will that help or no?

Questions on geckos and small pets?
May 5th, 2009 Posted by: admin
1. I’m going to be buying a pet soon and I have a few questions. I haven’t decided on what though. I was originally thinking of a leopard gecko until I read they could get about 10 inches long and that kinda requires a larger cage.
2 CommentsSo I was wondering if there were any smaller types of geckos?
and
2. I was also thinking of a chinese dwarf hamster. Are there any other small animals? (I’d need a pet smaller than a bunny or guinea pig)
I would really prefer a pet that doesn’t smell terribly bad either.

What is your favorite rodent?
April 11th, 2009 Posted by: admin
Any rodent at all. Rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, rat, gerbils, anything! And tell me why, please. Right now, I’d have to say my favorite rodent is a tie between rats and hamster. But I have a hammy right now and I love her to death!

Thanks a lot! Mucho appreciated.

Hm. Looking for a new small pet?
March 14th, 2009 Posted by: admin
My aged rat passed away a month or so ago, and I thought it’d take longer for me to get over it, but instead I’m longing for another. Rodents are what I’m interested in, and so far I haven’t made a decision. From experience, which would be best in a household with two young children: a pair of rats, gerbils, mice, guinea pigs, a rabbit, or a hamster? I haven’t yet bought a cage, so that doesn’t really matter.

September 10th, 2008 Posted by: admin
I’ve had several hamsters in the past and only two guinea pigs last year…My guinea pig sadly died at only a couple month old because i think this disease got to them and killed both of them…Their eyes were gunky and everything else was not right about them…I want another small pet right now but i’m trying to chose between a hamster or guinea pig? Can someone please help me! this is an easy 10 points!!
