Food to serve at a wedding reception?

OK, so I’m getting married in March and have already found a caterer who will serve whatever I like, but I have no idea what I should serve at a reception. I need some ideas that aren’t too expensive… thank you. Oh and we will need to feed between 100-150 people.

Cocktail party or stations dinner?

Since the previous poll I did had these as the majority votes, which would you prefer?

The food choices would be the same or similar at both (the caterer we are going with offers stations for either appetizers or buffet dinner as well as passed appetizers. The only difference is that the portions are larger for the buffet dinner), and there would be tables and chairs for everyone regardless of the choice picked in the end. The cocktail party obviously would not have assigned seating while the stations dinner would have assigned seating for guests to sit down to eat.

Gratuity after the reception?

After the reception, who exactly do you need to pay a gratuity?
The caterer? Chocolate fountain attendant? Any others?
Trust me, I don’t want to be out more money, I just wasn’t sure if it is expected.

Caterer for $2.50 a person ?

I know someone that found a caterer for their wedding for 2 dollars and 50 cents a person. That seems very cheap for a wedding! I know most meals are like 30 dollars+. What do you think the food would be?
By cheap I meant inexpensive, like unbelievable. I didn’t mean it as ungrateful.
I heard it was a meal. It’s not my wedding by the way. :)

Going to visit reception site - what should I ask them?

Today, I am going to visit a possible ceremony/reception site for my wedding. What are some important questions that I should ask them that I’m probably not thinking of? I know the basic charges for things (facility rental, staff, etc.). They work exclusively with one caterer, and I know who that is. What else should I be asking?

Is this a reasonable price for a caterer?

She said $26.70 per person for a buffet type set-up. It include servers, linens for the tables and table decorations, a serving of each dish in a to go box for me and my fiance, and they clean everything up and put all the left over food in boxes at the end. I’m just wondering because I had no idea how much caterers normally run, and would appreciate some idea.
I already ahve the venue booked, and the bar is through them. All I have left is the caterer.

Oh and I live in Louisiana.
The price includes tax. It include like two big meal type dishes (chicken &sausage gumbo and crawfish fettucine) lol you can tell Im form Louisiana… 4 types of finger sandwiches, hot wings, stuffed jalapenos, potato salad, fruit center piece, fruit tray, vegetable tray, mexican dip, spinach/ artichoke dip, rolls, crackers, a punch… And like I said all the plates, linens, decorations and 5 servers.
