Which small animal would you choose?
July 24th, 2007 Posted by: admin
I can’t decide which small animal to get! I’ve had hamsters before, but I heard rats were great, but guinea pigs are cute too. SO-from you’re personal experience, which do you think I should get? Describe your pet experience for me!
Rat
Hamster
Guinea Pig
Mice
Please answer! Thanks!
1. Yes! Rabbits are an option too but I’m basically looking for smaller pets

2. I know basically all there is to know about all of these pets. I just want peoples’ opinions. All are social EXEPT Syrian hamsters which like to be single.
3. Sadly, i cant get gerbils, they’re illegal in my state. same with ferrets, hedgehogs, etc.

I would go with the hamster. Friends might come over and scream rat and smash your furry friend into a pancake.

guinea pig. i used to have one. he lasted a few years and was so sweet. occasionally they can bite. but mine was good. i could hold him and play with him… little rats and mice arent friendly. they bite hard. hamsters are ok but never last long. and if it hides. its very hard to find. lol. but good luck.

I’ve heard that rats are great pets, but since I have a hamster, I say DEFINITELY DONT GET A HAMSTER. this one is insane and no one can pick it up because it bites everything that moves. I definitely think you should get a guinea pig, they are sturdy and very affectionate, I used to have 3.

RATS.
All of these animals are social, so there will need to be more than “1″ of whatever you choose.. Which type of rodent YOU should get shouldn’t be based on my favorite types of pets. You need to be doing research. The personalities, care, and so on are all very different from this list of pets!
Currently the momma of 9 rats, with 5 more on the way. I adore our little addictive little guys. They are sweet, loving, fun, and very smart. Hamsters are nice pets, too, just haven’t owned them in a long time. If you’re looking for a great companion, guinea pigs are lovely. They are *extremely* intelligent, easy to train (in my experience), and very loving. Mice… seemingly don’t care if you’re there or not. They are pretty smart little guys, just generally don’t want anything to do with people.

i have owned two guinea pigs and eleven mice. i have friends who have had rats or hamsters and out of all of them i liked the mice the best. they’re small, dont smell horrible, they are quiet at night [hamsters aren't] they’re easy to take care of, they’re easy to find if they get loose, and they’re cute!

Rat or Guinea pig. They are the nicest, they don’t bite as often.

Gerbils vs. Hamsters
why gerbils make nicer, easier, more engaging pets…
Gerbils switch off between napping and playing 24/7.
Gerbils are energetic and athletic and fun to watch.
Gerbils are social and live in pairs. Gerbils bond tightly and are great parents.
Tamed gerbils rarely nip. It is important to get gerbils that have been handled from a young age.
Gerbils are desert animals that produce little waste.
Gerbils have beautiful, long furry tails with a tuft.
Hamsters are nocturnal: they sleep all day.
Hamsters waddle around and are lazy.
Hamsters are solitary and live alone. Hamsters will fight and are more likely to eat young.
Hamsters are more easily alarmed and more likely to nip when alarmed, e.g., when awakened in the day.
Hamster tanks get very stinky very quickly.
Hamsters have short, stubby bare tails.

I want to know why a gerbil is illegal? &How.
Anyways. Get a rat. They are one of the most intelligent kind of animals.
&They’re really fun to have. They love to be handled.
&You can litter train them. I don’t know what else to say about them.
But they make really great pets.

Are chinchillas illegal in your state?
They have a lot of the same characteristics as a lot of other rodents (like biting things, chewing, etc.)
But they are adorable!!!! I have two and they have SO MUCH personality! They are affectionate, they DON’T SMELL, THEY ARE HYPOALLERGENIC, and you never have to bathe them! They bathe themselves in a special chinchilla dust and it’s adorable to watch! They aren’t as big as rabbits, but are big enough to hold! They love to jump around, too. Youtube “chinchilla” and you’ll find plenty of videos of how cute and fun they are.
Trust me, you want a small animal? Chinchillas ARE they way to go!

PLEASE don’t listen to the people that say “get a…… because it’s sooo cute!”. Never get an animal only because it’s “so cute”. Sometime it’s the animals some people think of as uncute that make better pets, such as rats (I think they are the most precious little cuties but looks really dont matter). Rats make amazing pets, they bond to you from day one, and theyre extremely interactive, intelligent, and affectionate. Unlike hamsters which think of their owners as predators and are never fully tame, being highly unpredictable animals you never know when theyre going to bite. Mice are also very nervous have a terribly strong odour, especially males. Guinea pigs are very expensive, time consuming, and skittish. Rats make better pets all-round in my opinion, but hamsters, mice, and guinea pigs can make great pets to the right owner. They’re just not for everyone.
