Should I get a hamster?
January 17th, 2007 Posted by: admin
My friend just bought a hamster that is probably pregnant. She is looking for a home for the babies and offered one to me. I have two guinea pigs but I have never had a hamster. How are they? They will be raised by hand… she has breed hamsters before. Hers kinda stinks but not really. And the cage doesn’t smell at all…
Do they smell bad? How bad?
Do they make good pets?
Should I take the offer?
I went to bed at 6 am today

if you buy the right bedding and change their cage enough, then they won’t smell.
personally i loved having my hamster.
make sure you hold it though at a young age, then it won’t bite or anything.
if you really want the hamster, then i would get it.
but i don’t know if it would be hard because you have two guinea pigs.
good luck:)

hamsters dont smell bad..but there urine adds up and makes an awful smell. they make very great pets but are nocturnal so you can’t really play with them much and they don’t like to be touched sometimes. i say no. get a gerbil they are very cuddly and are awake during the daytime. but do what you want to do..hamsters are wonderful pets!

I have a hamster, i loved it when i first got it but i got bored of it and i just take it to play with it but its not as interesting as i thought it would be when i bought it. They are great pets though. With a lot of love they will be the nicest, cutest little critters out there :). They absolutely do not smell bad as long as you clean the cage. They make good pets if you want to spend the time with them and they are very easy to take care of. And to answer your last problem, if you think they are worth the time, then defiantly. They are favorite pets to some people, just not other people. Don’t let me not thinking their fun be a down to you i just like bigger animals. Have fun

The only way they smell is if their cage is not cleaned. Clean the cage every week. You can bathe the hamster’s if they smell bad. Not deep water and have to supervise them at ALL TIMES. I never bathed my hamster’s because they don’t smell bad. I use Care Fresh bedding. I love it because it’s ultra and absorbent. Yes they are great pets. Remember If you want to handle them first let them get used to their surrounding for a week because if you rush to pick them up they will bite and get wet tail. Getting used to hamster’s is a slow process. hold out your hand and let the hamster smell it. You can use treats to. Yes take the offer they great pets i love my hamster’s so much.
